So Much For Twitter

And I thought Tumblr’s searchability was bad.

I needed to look up the URL of a “doc-editing-in-the-cloud” web app that Kyle Bragger mentioned on twitter a few months ago. I tried searching Google, but the results were wildly unhelpful, no matter what I used for search terms. (Has anyone else been having more difficulty filtering Google noise lately?) So I decided to see if I could just use twitter to find the original tweet. At the time, Kyle and I had @’d some messages back and forth about the service, so I thought it’d be pretty easy to find.

First, I tried to go through my reply history in both Echofon and the web client, but couldn’t go back more than 10 messages. Next I tried twitter’s own advanced search form. Ah - an option to search “from” and “to”. Just use Kyle’s twitter handle and mine, that will wor - wait, what? NO results?! Um… great. I tried a quick search for messages between Meaghin and myself, in case these results were a fluke, but the only result was a message from yesterday.

So I guess Twitter only cares about the immediate past? Ugh. Even with Tumblr’s search problems, at least I have a history of my own content! (And easy exportability). Guess twitter only wants me to add content that will be completely useless in more than a week. Thanks guys.
